Job Overview
We're looking for a skilled Distributed Systems Engineer to join our Data Platform team at blithequark. As a Distributed Systems Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in developing and enhancing our infrastructure as we strive to reach 500 million people worldwide. You'll be working on building and maintaining scalable, fault-tolerant, and highly available distributed systems that meet the evolving needs of our business.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain large-scale distributed systems features and applications
- Build and operate a scalable query gateway that facilitates data abstractions to work at sub-millisecond latencies
- Enable Netflix microservices to store, consume, and manage their data more efficiently
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and TPMs across groups
- Drive technical innovation and contribute to the open-source community through Netflix OSS
- Participate in the development of high-impact systems, control, and deployment frameworks calibrated for running data frameworks at scale
- Work on building features and performance enhancements for distributed data processing and storage systems
Essential Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in building large-scale distributed systems features or applications
- Proficiency in designing and developing scalable web services
- Experience in building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems
- Knowledge of Java or other object-oriented programming languages
- Comfortable with multi-threading and concurrency
- BS in Computer Science or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with distributed data processing and storage systems such as Apache Spark, Presto/Trino, Druid, and Iceberg
- Familiarity with cloud-native technologies and platforms
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles and best practices
- Experience working with open-source communities and contributing to OSS projects
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
