Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team at West District Elementary School. As a Special Education Paraprofessional, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students with diverse needs, providing personalized support and guidance to help them achieve their academic and personal goals. This is a rewarding role that requires a strong passion for working with students with special needs, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one support to students with special needs, including those on the autism spectrum, using techniques such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Discrete Trial Instruction (DTI)
  • Assist teachers with lesson planning, instructional delivery, and classroom management, including modifying instructional materials and assisting with technology integration
  • Support students with personal care and hygiene needs, including lifting up to 50 pounds and toileting, as well as assisting with medication regimens
  • Collect and record data on student progress, including observing and collecting data, organizing and recording student progress, and taking classroom notes
  • Provide clerical support, including scheduling activities, copying, stapling, and operating media equipment
  • Maintain a safe and respectful learning environment, including monitoring hallways and study halls, and correcting minor behavioral problems

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • An Associate's degree or 2 years of college diploma, or equivalent (i.e., Para Professional Assessment), with a Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience working with students with special needs, particularly those on the autism spectrum, and knowledge of ABA and DTI techniques
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, teachers, and other support staff
  • Ability to follow directions, both oral and written, and to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in a special education setting, with knowledge of special education laws and regulations
  • Experience with data collection and analysis, and the ability to use technology to support instruction and data collection
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to communicate with students and families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $22.99-$26.87 per hour, dependent on experience, as well as a range of benefits, including:
