The Role: Professional Development Manager - Law Firm

As a Professional Development Manager with Sterlington, you will play a critical role in driving the continued legal education (CLE) of all fee-earners across our organization. You will collaborate with partners and senior professional stakeholders to ensure that our team members have the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles. Additionally, you will serve as the relationship and development manager for our associate cohort, providing a point of contact for non-technical working matters and assisting with associate work allocation and utilization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Associate Development and Utilization: Monitor associates' availability, utilization, and professional development to ensure that they are well-equipped to meet the demands of their roles.
  • Reporting and Analytics: Create reports for the Partner team to assist with staffing and utilization schedules, providing valuable insights to inform strategic decision-making.
  • CLE Management: Log and oversee associates' CLE to maximize their exposure to different partners and ensure the development of new, core skills.
  • Performance Evaluation: Implement a performance evaluation process for associates, tracking and facilitating the realization of Professional Development Priorities identified during review processes.
  • Training and Development: Collaborate with practice leaders to identify training needs and skill gaps across the fee-earner teams, organizing appropriate training programs to address those needs.
  • Onboarding and Orientation: Work with HR colleagues to design and roll-out a new associate onboarding and orientation program, ensuring a seamless transition for new team members.

Qualifications and Attributes:

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience: Collaborating with partners and senior professional services stakeholders within a law firm environment, with a focus on professional development and training.
  • US Law Firm Experience: Experience working with US law firms, with a strong understanding of the legal industry and its unique challenges.
  • Technical Skills: Strong Excel, PowerPoint, and Office 365 skills, with the ability to review, interpret, and present datasets for management information packs.
  • Training and Development: Experience in training and development, with a focus on allocation and utilization of associate resources.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.

What We Offer:

As a valued member of our team, you can expect:

  • Competitive Salary: A competitive salary reflecting your experience and qualifications, with the opportunity for local market rate adjustments.
  • Remote Work Opportunity: The flexibility to work from anywhere, with a 100% remote working arrangement that allows you to create your ideal work environment.
  • Career Growth Opportunities: Opportunities for professional growth and development, with a focus on training and education to help you achieve your career goals.
