About the Role

As a Data Scientist on our Data, Analytics, Insights, and Business Operations team, you'll play a critical role in helping Starbucks make informed decisions by leveraging data and analytics. You'll work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, business stakeholders, and external vendors to drive business outcomes. Your expertise in forecasting, automating ETL processes, and designing and building analytical models will be essential in driving our business forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Extract data from various databases and perform exploratory data analysis, cleansing, wrangling, and aggregating data to drive business insights.
  • Determine analytical approaches to tackle business problems and integrate machine learning algorithms where appropriate to drive innovative solutions.
  • Utilize scaling and automation to streamline data preparation processes, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.
  • Transform model results into digestible patterns for end-users through visualization, clear tables, and smart presentations, and provide support to technical and non-technical stakeholders in interpreting and applying the insights.
  • Work closely with colleagues and technology teams from issue identification to solution implementation, driving a culture of collaboration and innovation.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline, such as Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or Quantitative Sociology.
  • A minimum of 2+ years of industry experience in data science, with a strong background in predictive and statistical modeling, machine learning, and proficiency in all stages of the modeling pipeline.
  • Experience building complex datasets from multiple data sources, both internal and external, and strong SQL, database, and ETL skills, including data cleaning and management.
  • Advanced proficiency and expertise in Python, R, or other relevant platforms.
  • The ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to discuss complex ideas effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A self-starter mindset, with attention to detail and a results-oriented approach, able to work under minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly preferred:

  • Experience working on Cloud platforms, such as Azure or AWS.
  • A graduate degree in a quantitative discipline.
  • Additional experience in data science or a related field.
